Bracamontes Added to FSSD Instructional Technology Staff

The Franklin Special School District is making good on one of the Board’s strategic planning objectives by hiring a third Instructional Technology Specialist to help teachers plan effective and innovative lessons using technology and online resources. Josh Bracamontes will join the two current Instructional Technology Specialists on July 10 to begin planning for the 2017-2018 school year. “We are excited to welcome Josh to the FSSD family,” said Director of Schools Dr. David Snowden.  “His passion for maximizing student learning through the use of technology and his collaborative approach in working with colleagues were evident during the interview process.” “We are beginning the first full year of the 1:1 laptop/device phase-in in the middle school grades and that has required a significant amount of time from the 5th-8th grade IT Specialist,” Snowden continued. Snowden expects Bracamontes, as the third IT specialist, to greatly relieve the departmental load and provide teachers with more time to meet and plan with teaching teams, to provide differentiated professional learning opportunities and to model and co-teach with technology rich lessons in the classrooms. Bracamontes comes to the FSSD from Maury County Schools, where he most recently served as Dean of Students at Hampshire Unit School, a K-12 campus, for the past year. Prior to that position, he has been a general music teacher, a band teacher and a math interventionist. His leadership experience includes instructional coaching, serving as a member of the school leadership team, mentoring new teachers, and serving as a PTO liaison. As a teacher, Bracamontes earned the distinction of a Microsoft Innovative Educator, and was the Hampshire Unit School Teacher of...

Come aboard for reading fun on FSSD’s Story Bus Plus this summer

The Story Bus Plus program is a free community service offered in the summer by the Franklin Special School District and designed to foster a love of reading in children. It offers reading time and storytelling to children ages 4 through the 4th grade (younger if accompanied by an adult). Children may choose a good book, curl up on a beanbag and read or have books read to them. Whatever the format, children are sure to have a good time aboard the Story Bus Plus.
