welcome to the
FRANKLIN SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
excellence in teaching and learning for all
The FSSD is a preK-8 school system with approximately 3,700 students enrolled. Students are served by eight schools: four elementary schools, one intermediate school, one middle school, and a K-8 school campus. The FSSD Board of Education has proudly committed itself to meeting and/or exceeding the state’s teacher-pupil ratio requirements, with ratios at: 1 to 20 in kindergarten through third grade, 1 to 22 in fourth grade, and 1 to 25 in grades 5-8. All schools and the Central Office are accredited by the AdvancED, one of the largest and most esteemed school accreditation agencies in the country.
SINCE 1906
The Franklin Special School District gets its unique name from a Special Act of the state legislature that provides the Board of Education its own taxing authority, enabling the schools to be funded appropriately in order to maintain “Excellence in Teaching and Learning for All”

The FSSD Transportation Department oversees a fleet of buses which carry kindergarten through 8th grade students to eight schools. All bus drivers are trained in CPR and first aid and are provided ongoing annual training for school bus operation, as required by the state. Getting your child safely to school is of utmost concern to the FSSD and many safety precautions are in place. If your child will be riding the bus please note the following:
Students should be waiting for their bus at least 5 minutes prior to the scheduled pick-up time. Bus times are approximate due to factors such as variable ridership, traffic tie-ups, mechanical difficulties, etc. Students should stand at least 5 feet away from the bus stop staging area. This is for your child’s safety so that they are not in harm’s way of other vehicle traffic. Students should NEVER walk behind a school bus while boarding or deboarding the bus. The bus driver needs to have a clear view of the student at all times. Video monitoring equipment is on all buses to address student behavior issues.
