MAINTENANCE AND LANDSCAPING

The Franklin Special School District Facilities Department maintains and continually improves all facilities and ensures that the climate in and around the district property is safe to assist in promotion of “excellence in teaching & learning for all.”

The Facilities Department closely monitors its work in order to improve responsiveness. Each individual within the department can see how they contribute to the result and where their strengths and improvement opportunities are. They are professional men and women who work very hard to keep our buildings and grounds well maintained and safe.

The department strives for efficiency to ensure appropriate action is taken so work requests are completed in a timely manner. Additionally, the team discusses ways to approach work orders so as to reduce or eliminate repetition, as well as how to turn reactive maintenance into preventative maintenance.

The Facilities Department’s mission is to support the district’s vision by ensuring that the physical facilities are well maintained, safe, and provide the proper environment that promotes “Excellence in Teaching and Learning for All.” Maintaining a positive image to the community, students, parents, educators and employees is our main contribution to the district’s vision.

Use of Facilities

The FSSD will allow its facilities to be used by outside groups under certain parameters and legal obligations. The form below must be filled out completely and signed by the requestor and the principal/supervisor of the building/grounds requested for use, the Associate Director of Schools for Finance and Administration and the Director of Schools. The request must be made 45 days in advance of the event.

Asbestos Management Plans

In accordance with the EPA’s Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) of 1987 (40 CFR Part 763), the school district gives annual notification stating that the Asbestos Management Plan for each building is available for public review. The plan is currently kept in the Main Offices at each building and in the Maintenance and Landscaping Office. These records are available for review during normal school business hours.

Every three years an independent review is conducted in all buildings. In addition, in accordance with this act, a six-month periodic surveillance is conducted in each building that contains asbestos. Before the start of a project we will make sure all building occupants are properly notified and all signage will indicate the scope of the project.
