Free Summer Reading Program Offered for Grades 5-7

The Franklin Special School District is partnering with the Gentry Educational Foundation and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to offer a FREE summer reading program in three sessions to rising 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students.

Students will meet at Freedom Intermediate School from 7:45 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday, for the following sessions:

  • June 12 – 15 (Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt)
  • June 26 – 29 (Book Scavenger by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman)
  • July 10 – 13 (Woof by Spencer Quinn)

You may choose one session or all three depending on your student’s interest and availability.  During these sessions, students will read a different intermediate-level novel selected from the Tennessee Volunteer State Book Association (VSBA) list and activities and discussion will center around the book’s content. Breakfast and lunch are provided. To enroll your child for any or all of the three sessions, please stop by the Freedom Intermediate School Office and complete the registration form. Enrollment is limited so please be sure to come by  prior to the deadline on Friday, June 9, at 1:00 PM.
